Consume

Bigger, better, more, faster. We consume and consume and consume. When will it ever be enough? Can we ever be satisfied? We are like dogs chasing a bone. (If only the bone could be even bigger.) In the end, we are weighed down and bound up.

“Consume” is a multidisciplinary body of work that deals with the impact of mass consumerism on our lives. I focus on the everyday things that form our conceptions of ourselves and our environment, underlining what we “choose” or “don’t choose” to become as individuals. (And are we really the ones doing the “choosing” at all?)

I wanted to look at how we come to define ourselves by what we consume. To explore the inherent struggle of individuation against the head-on barrage of advertising, merchandising, and information that demands we surrender.
